360 Degrees – archived project (2000)
Original concept
When the initial call for expressions of interest went ‘out there’, the main criteria for inclusion in this project was that ‘360 degrees intends to present a diverse range artists and writers who actively engage with constructions of identity and site in their work.’
The issues of ‘place’ plus the process of locating self within that construct
have long held my attention as an artist and curator.
An interest in developing cross cultural collaborations fostered the concept behind 360degrees.
What evolved was a process which came out of the artists and writers timely response to such a project, plus the current availablity of the proposed websites.
The focus of 360degrees was to connect with other people working with these concerns
and whose work was readily accessible on the WWW.
To encourage a broad audience base there was a preference for low bandwidth sites, although one site does require a Shockwave Plugin.
The end result of this first launch of 360degrees is the presentation of
a series of works which diversely respond to the questions of ‘who’ and ‘where’.

Artists
Linda Carroli is a writer, artist and curator.
Speak was produced in 1999 with funding from Arts Queensland. It was included in INC.ubation Salon curated by Mark Amerika for the 2000 trace conference on hypertext.
Dr. Joseph Nechvatal has worked with ubiquitous electronic visual information and computer-robotics since 1986.

SHY BOY: Shy_Boy is an online audio and streaming media project interrogating queer space and online identity on the internet.
Tina Gonsalves has been working with in animation, video, design, web, and ilustration for the last seven years.
