Nomadic Artists
The connections between art and travel have been a key part of my love for adventuring to new horizons. Over the years I have participated in festivals, workshops and residencies in places like Turkey, New Zealand, Singapore, Helsinki, Estonia, USA, Wales and in many Australian locations. This has been a great way to meet new people, share experiences and learn about new places.
I have recently come across a number of great arts based projects and organisations that focus on travelling and making art. Check out these examples:
- Touring Artists is an information portal for internationally mobile artists, provides comprehensive information on visas/residence, transport/customs, taxes, social security, other insurances, and copyright.
- The Nomadic Village is a mobile art society which is run by and for nomadic artists. The virtual meeting point is the website, the physical epicenter is the bus.
- The Itinerant Artist Project (IAP) is a painting-based project with strong public outreach and performance dimensions devised and undertaken by Western NY landscape painter Jim Mott. The IAP is based on the principles of gift exchange discussed in Lewis Hyde‘s seminal work, the Gift.
I hope to keep building on this list as I discover more art adventurers.
