A point of connection – the Seven Churches of Asia
We were recently talking to some people who were planning a pilgrimage to Turkey to visit the “Seven Churches of Revelations” also known as the Seven Churches of Asia. This came as a bit of a surprise, as although we had an awareness that there was mountains and mountains of religious history in Turkey, we did not realise that Turkey was a destination for religious pilgrimage in a contemporary context.
The seven churches are located in:
- Ephesus (also see Church of Mary)
- Smyrna
- Pergamon
- Thyatira
- Sardis (the See of Sardis)
- Philadelphia
- and Laodicea, near Denizli (see Laodicean Church)
Tracey is particularly interested in exploring the rich religious history of Turkey and during the residency we hope to build up a database of stories that can be woven into the creative work. This is just the beginning!
