First steps for Cultural Strangers
Today we started to set up a studio space in a cave next to the Babayan Culture House. This is where we will construct an installation piece that we can move from location to location.
Over the past months we have been collecting all sorts of images – maps, historical prints, motifs and photographs.
First job was to clean up a bit, Marty was great with the broom!
Once we swept the studio, we laid down some lovely carpets (kilims) Willemijn bought from the mosque. The patterns are wonderful and I love how the kilims tell a personal story about the woman who made it. This is definitely a subject I want to explore in detail.
So far so good – have lots of source material, a studio, an amazing location to work in, now the big challenge – making work!
